Introduction

The Encounter Combat Mechanics explains how battle damage and effects work in Outlaw Troopers.

Damage Types

-There are four types of damage in Encounters:

  • Standard Damage – Normal attack damage which deals damage to shield before armor.
  • Piercing Damage – Ignores shields and hits armor directly.
  • Elemental Damage – Has a chance to burn enemies.

Irresistible Damage – Cannot be resisted or blocked (even by Aegis).

Your Ship’s weapon type determines your basic attack damage type:

Projectile Ships → Basic attack becomes Standard Damage

Missile Ships → Basic attack becomes Piercing Damage

Corrosive Ships → Basic attack becomes Elemental Damage

Note: Gear abilities retain their own damage type (e.g. Solar Igniter always deals Elemental Damage).

AOE Target Limit

AOE attacks now hit a limited number of targets.

Basic attack: 1 target (default)

AOE skills: 3 targets (default)

Increase this limit through Gears, Troopers, or the Tech Tree.

Summoned or converted units do not share your AOE target limit. However, Duchess DunVella gives summoned/converted allies +30% All Resistance, +300% Damage, hits 3 additional targets, and makes them immune to Burn.

Critical System

All damage types can now critically hit.

Base Critical Chance: 5%

Base Critical Multiplier: 100%

Evade

Evade works on attacks that deal Standard Damage.

Maximum Evade Chance: 75%.

Resistances

Each resistance applies only to its matching damage type.

Maximum Resistance: 75%.

Resistance can go negative, causing you to take extra damage. (Some enemies, such as Dominators, can reduce your resistance.)

Burn Effect

Base Burn Damage: 20.

Enemy Burn Damage: 20 + (2 × Tier Number).

Irresistible Damage

This special damage type ignores all resistances, shields, and Aegis protection. Examples include:

Omni (Dominator): Removes 5% of your Shield when hit.

Death Marker (Gear): Sacrifices part of your Armor and Shield to instantly defeat an enemy.

Nanoburst (Gear): Instantly removes a percentage of enemies’ Shields.

Unstable Calibrator (Gear): Sacrifices part of your Armor and Shield to reset all skill cooldowns.

Common Questions

Q: Do minions or summons share my AOE limit? No. Their attacks are separate. Only Duchess DunVella increases their target count.

Q: Why does my resistance show a negative value? Some enemies, such as Dominators, can apply debuffs that reduce your resistance below 0%, making you take more damage.

Q: Do ships and gears share damage type? No. Ships affect your basic attack, while Gears always use their own fixed damage type shown in their description.
